From Fethiye bus station up and over the hill to the ghost city of Kayakoy, crest an even bigger hill via a rocky forest trail to the cyan blue waters of Ölüdeniz lagoon, then a dull climb up the hard shoulder of the main road to Ovacik and onto the Lycian Way proper.

Schoolboy errors from the off: I misjudged the heat and the difficulty of the terrain and hills and fell well short of my distance target for the day. About an hour before sunset I started passing random discarded clothes on the trail. A t-shirt here, pair of of pants there followed by the regular echoed shrieking and gibbering of a drug crazed goatherd somewhere up on the mountainside. 

At this point just before sunset I realistically could go no further so stopped up at the next convenient flat area, a small plateau overlooking Ölüdeniz, next to a goat shed and a well. The mad shrieking goatherd continued until sunset and I slept a fitful sleep of paranoia with my clip knife close to hand.
